Jacketed Flexible Hoses

Everything you need to know about Jacketed Metal Hose

Jacketed Metal Hoses, also called double-jacketed hoses, are a type of flexible metal hose used in industrial applications for the transfer of fluids where the fluid temperature control is crucial. These hoses consits of an inner corrugated stainless steel hose and an outer jacket ( so the name - Jacketed Hose ).

The inner stainless steel braided hose is responsible for passage of the primary inner media, whereas the outer jacket behaves as an insulating layer, making jacketed metal hoses suitable for applications involving extreme temperatures, aggressive media, or both.

Does your application have a requirement for Jacketed Hoses?
Let's understand what parameters need to be considered by the engineer to design the Jacketed Stainless Steel Hose :

Inner Corrugated Stainless Steel Hose

The primary inner media flows through the inner hose. When designing you should consider :
>>   Diameter of the Hose
The inner diameter of the stainless steel braided / unbraided hose will always be smaller than the outer hose diameter.
>>   Material of the Hose
Depending upon the type of inner media, you can select a material suitable for the hose. You can refer our checical compatibility chart for more details.
>>   Working Pressure of the hose
Jacketed stainless steel hose can be designed for high pressure aa well as for vacuum applications. The hose should be designed for withstanding a working pressure greater than application design pressure.
>>   Working temperature of the hose
Generally Jacketed Metal Hoses are designed to maintain the desired temperature of the media for an application. The maximum working temperature should be mentioned at the time of enquiry.

Outer Corrugated Stainless Steel Hose

The outer hose acts as an insulating cover to maintain the desired temperature of the inner primary media. So working temperature is an important parameter needed to decide the type of hose suitable for your application. In some applications, the space between the inner tube and outer jacket may be filled with insulating materials to control heat transfer.

Inner Corrugated Stainless Steel Hose End Fittings

Both the inner and outer hose are welded to fittings. The end connections of your inner corrugated hose should match the connecting pipe fittings through which the inner media will flow. The material of this end connection should be compatible with the inner media.

Outer Corrugated Stainless Steel Hose End Fittings

The outer stainless steel hose connections are usually connected perpendicular to the inner stainless steel hose connections. These are also termed as insulating outlet and inlet. Ocelflex provides a wide range of stainless steel hose end connections to choose from. To view commonly used end connections visit our hose end connection page. Alternately we can customize the end connection to your requirement, both in terms of material and design.

Though Stainless Steel Jacketed Hoses are more common, at Ocelflex we have designed and manufactured Stainless Steel Wire Braided Jacketed PTFE Hose assembly for a few German clients who had applications in the Food and Beverage industry.

Application of Jacketed Hose

Apart from the common advantages of stainless steel braided hoses, such as flexibility, easy installation and maintenance, Stainless Steel Jacketed Hoses find its application in Cryogenic, Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical and Chemical industries. These metal hoses are ideal for conveying media such as hot oil, steam, and chemicals in a temperature sensitive application.
